超強力永久磁石の開発とその応用、特にリニアーコライダーと中性子光学への新展開

Research Abstract

リニアーコライダー用の最終集束レンズの試作第2号機は、ビームテストを通じてそのフィージビリティを実証する必要がある。最終集束のテスト実験を行う予定であるATF2でも実験が可能なように、外形はILC用と同じままでボア径を大きく設計し、製作してある。試作機は磁石の調整を行った後、強度可変性や、磁場中心の変動、集束面の傾きなどの磁場測定が必要である。その過程で、使っている磁石の一つが不良品であることが判明し、精度が悪い原因の一つが解消した。一方、磁場測定装置にも改良の必要があることが判り、検討中である。また、ATF2でのテストのために微動調整架台を製作した。永久磁石を使うレンズの場合、完全には強度をゼロにすることは自明ではないため、この架台は、真空を破らずにビーム軸上から磁石を移動させる機能を持たせている。
六極磁石に関してはフランス・グルノーブル・ILLの極冷中性子(VCN)を用いた。チョッパーを用いてパルス化を行い、これに同期させた強度変調により、白色パルス中性子の集束の実証を行った。その後、小角中性子散乱(SANS)の実験体系を組み、いくつかの特徴的なサンプルのfocusing VCN-SANS測定を行い、装置全体がコンパクトになることや、分解能の向上、角度幅の拡大などが実証できた。ここで代表的なサンプルは水溶性3ブロック共重合体(PEO-PPO-PEO)溶液であり、これの温度相転移現象が観測できた。
また、その他、低エネルギービーム輸送系に於けるソレノイドレンズの消費電力低減や、イオン源の超小型化等に利用可能なことを示した。
