Research Abstract |
This study focuses ytterbium (Yb) atoms which are quite different from popular alkali-metal atoms so far used in most previous studies and have unique properties. The purpose of this study is to realize completely new quantum degenerate system using Yb atoms and the exploration of its new possibilities. In particular, we try to realize multi-component mixtures of various quantum degenerate systems and to reveal the novel properties by studting the mixture of Bose-Einstein condensate and Fermi degeneracy, Bose-Einstein condensates and Fermi degeneracy with the metastable states with an orbital angular momentum of Yb atoms.
