Research Abstract

光合成細菌の光合成系は,自然が創造した超高速(100フェムト秒以下)かつ高効率(〜100%)な光エネルギー変換機構を達成するための本質的な条件を満たすバイオナノデバイスである.その機構を解明することは太陽光エネルギーの有効利用という点から鑑みると,次世代のクリーンエネルギー変換器の基盤技術となることが期待される.本研究は,これまで申請者が行ってきた研究結果に基づき,光合成研究の分野で見落とされてきた電子系,及び分子系の持つ「コヒーレンス」に着目し,光合成細菌の光合成系において達成されている高効率エネルギーの起源を明らかにし,更にはエネルギー伝達効率を人為的に制御する技術の確立を目指す.
前年度に引き続きH20年度は,アンテナ色素蛋白複合体において緑色領域の光捕集を行うカロテノイドに着目し,そのコヒーレント光学応答を調べた.試料としては,代表的カロテノイドであるβ-カロテンを採用した,H20年度に得られた結果の中で特に注目すべき点として,サブ20フェムト秒光源を用いた過渡的なコヒーレント信号(誘導フォトンエコー信号)に,断熱ポテンシャルに大きな非調和性があらわれることを見出したことを挙げることができる.同様の現象は,紅色光合成細菌の光捕集アンテナLH2においても観測することができた.このことは,これまで広く行われてきた定常吸収測定や,100フェムト秒領域で観測されてきた過渡的な状態と,まさに太陽光が入射した瞬間の分子の状態は大きく異なることを示している.これまでの常識を大きく修正する必要があるため,現在慎重に解析を行っている.また今回実験に用いた手法は,光合成系のコヒーレント制御に直接繋がるものであり,現在さらに詳細な実験を行っている.
