Research Abstract

Sushi-ichiレトロトランスポゾンに由来するSirh7はX染色体上に存在する哺乳類特異的遺伝子である。ノックアウトマウスの解析から、この遺伝子が正常なマウス胎盤における3層構造の形成に必須の機能をもつことを明らかにした。この研究により、申請者が既に報告したPeg10、Peg11同様、レトロトランスポゾンに由来していることを証明した。「哺乳類特異的臓器である胎盤の構造形成・機能獲得に、哺乳類ゲノムに新たに挿入されたレトロトランスポゾンが関わっていた」という新しい概念の構築に大きく貢献するものと考える。
