Research Abstract |
1. Development of Dual-Tandem-Mass Spectrometer with New Ion-trap A new concept of tripole was simulated by computer and it was found that this new tripole can be used not only for mass filter but also for a new gap ion trap which consists of two tripoles. With these new ion optics, a new dual tandem mass spectrometer which has two mass filter, one collision cell and one time-of-flight mass spectrometer, by which we can analyze molecules in quantitative and qualitative ways. The test machine was developed and its performance was checked. 2. Live Single Cell Mass Spectrometric Analysis With such sensitive and versatile new mass spectrometer, we can apply this type of mass spectrometer for live single cell analysis. However, the molecular amount of a single cell is very tiny with a million molecules for each molecular species. Thus it has not been succeeded before. We finally found a new super sensitive ionization methodology in which we inserted a nano-electro spray tip into a single cell under video-microscope and suck the contents of a cell and the tip was directly used as a nano-electro spray ionization source. This method is so successful to introduce the molecular contents of a cell and to detect hundreds of molecular peaks. This new method will be used in every aspect of bio-sciences and will accelerate the speed of analyses of life sciences.
