Research Abstract |
1. In Chapter 1, the use of ICT in English teaching in elementary schools is surveyed. Why ICT is needed in English teaching in elementary schools and what are the problems when ICT is introduced into elementary schools are discussed. 2. In Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, material development and syllabus design are discussed. Chapter 2 deals with how homeroom teachers can teach English to children with the help of ICT. Chapter 3 deals with how such software like PowerPoint of Microsoft can be used when we develop teaching materials with presenting some practical examples. These examples are developed by the author, which considered important in this field. 3. Chapter 4 deals with activities used in teaching speaking of English, with the two categories of skill-getting and skill-using. 4. Chapter 5 deals with the use of songs and chants as one of the steps of facilitating output, which is considered as a base of teaching speaking of English. Examples of songs and chants which can be used in each developmental step of children are also presented in discussing it. 5. Chapter 6, Language experience approach is discussed, which takes a variety of experiences essential in language learning, with the example of teaching alphabet letters. This can be applied when discussing teaching speaking of English. 6. In chapter 7, evaluation in English teaching in elementary schools is discussed with the concept of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Although some problems when introduced into English teaching in schools in Japan are pointed out, how this concept is used in English teaching in elementary schools is discussed with examples of evaluation form of listening and speaking English.
