| Research Abstract |
This is the research of interview to the victims of juvenile crimes committed in 1980s and its analysis in Japan. The interview focused on the parents of victims whose children were murdered by juveniles more than about 20 years ago. By interviewing 5 parents of whose children were murdered in 1980s, it was found out that they cannot be typified simply as victims of crime but that they have been influenced by the aging, illness and other factors. Especially the deep interviews were done to the parents whose children was murdered by the offenders, one of who was sentenced to death at district court and sentenced life-long imprisonment at appellate court. The interviews were done also to the lawyers who were hired by those parents. As it was very rare to hire lawyers to get compensation from the juvenile offenders in 1980, the present situation of compensation and the discourse of the lawyers were very interesting.
In order compare the situations of the parents of murdered children and the support systems in Japan with those in the USA, the interviews to the parents at the annual meeting of the Parents of Murdered Children(POMC) in 2007 and the participant observation at National Organization of Victim Assistance(NOVA) in 2006 were done.
