2つの因子のそれぞれの水準のいくつかをコントロール, すなわち, 標準的な処理(たとえば, 実際に評価されている小麦の品種)とし, その他の水準をテスト処理(たとえば, 新しく開発された小麦の品種)とする.テスト処理, コントロールの効果を比較し, どのテスト処理がコントロールより効果があるか, また, どのテスト処理, コントロールの組合せに効果があるかを調べるためのコントロールをもつ分割型2因子実験の構成法を与えた.
