Research Abstract

雲は太陽光を反射し気候に大きな影響を与えている。しかし、その特性は大気中のエーロゾルや降水により大きく変わるため、まだ不明な点が多い。本研究では、太陽反射率等の算定や雨滴形成に重要な要素である雲粒サイズが全球でどのような特徴を持っているか衛星を用いて調べた。その結果、雲粒サイズが降水の有無により大きく変わること、また雲粒臨界サイズと呼ばれる、ある大きさを境に雲光学的厚さと雲粒サイズの関係が正から負の相関に反転するなど興味深い事実が明らかになった。これらは雲とエーロゾルや降水の相互作用の解明に役立つもので、気候予測のモデル化に繋がる知見が得られた。
