Research Abstract

Hydrogen fueled supply systems and distributed power generation systems are expected to be introduced in the future to mitigate greenhouse gases resulting in global warming and improve energy security. It is important to assess their effect on energy efficiency, environmental and economical burdens in the total energy supply chain from resource mining to end use through conversion, generation and transportation processes. We developed the multi-layered evaluation model which can evaluate full fuelled energy chain system. In this study, the system function was enhanced to extend the coverage for LCA of an energy process technology. New model was applied to estimate the environmental aspect of hydrogen supply chain from steel by-product hydrogen production. The energy demand in 2030 of Ibaraki prefecture was estimated as a case study for the regional hydrogen utilization in near future. Moreover, CO2 intensity, energy profit ratio, CO2 emission reduction quantity and cost of electricity of power generation systems in China, such as wind power, Integrated coal Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC), Natural Gas Combined Cycle (NGCC) and Ultra Super Critical power plant (USC), were evaluated for CDM enforcement using the developed multi layered model.
