| Research Abstract |
超小型CCDカメラで樹洞内部を撮影した画像から、樹洞を利用する動物の判別だけでなく、樹洞の内部形態とくに樹洞の深さを推定し、内部容積を算出する方法を開発した。樹洞の形態はケヤキ、コナラ、ブナの3樹種間で大きく異なり、ムササビなどの樹上性哺乳類や樹洞営巣性の鳥類は、ブナの樹洞を選択的に利用していることが推察された。樹洞を野生動物の生息環境としての森林が有する資源のひとつとみなすと、利用可能な樹洞は種間で重複しており、樹洞資源をめぐる競合が起きていると考えられる。
