Research Abstract

Cigarette smoking causes oxidative stress in human both from the direct effects of the free radicals present in smoke. To study the effect of cigarette smoking, the levels of 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8OHdG) as the marker of an oxidative stress in smoking group have observed compared with those of non-smoker group, and may have been related to oxidative stress. We measured the levels of serum 8OHdG in all patients and control. In all, GST1, GSTM1, and PON1 Q192R genotypes were determined with PCR-RFLP analysis. Higher levels of 8OHdG in smoking group have observed significantly compared with those of non-smoker group. The frequencies of the genotype with the levels of 8OHdG did not be significantly related among the group. The present results suggest that GST1, GSTM1, and PON1 Q192R polymorphism is not associated with the level of 8OHdG between the smokers and non-smokers group.
