Research Abstract

地球上の99%以上の微生物種は培養法が不明であり、その生理・生態はほとんど未知である。本研究では、シロアリ腸内に共生する培養不能細菌の1種の少数細胞から、DNA合成酵素を使用することで全遺伝子情報を1千万倍に増幅して完全解読する手法の確立を試み、世界で初めて成功した。これにより、これまで詳細が不明であったシロアリと腸内原生生物、腸内細菌の複雑な3者共生機構を世界で初めて明らかにした。
