Research Abstract

古細菌に属する微生物群の多くは人為的に培養がなされていないため、その生物学的な機能は不明な点が多い。そこで本研究課題では新規な微生物培養法を用いて学術および産業上重要であると推定されている古細菌群の培養を試みた。その結果、従来法では培養できなかった古細菌群を培養することに成功した。それら分離株の中には、水田からのメタン生成に最も関与していると推定されていた古細菌や深海底のメタンの生成と抑制に関与するメタン菌が含まれている。これらの分離株は温室効果ガスであるメタンの生成メカニズムの解明や抑制技術の開発のための重要な基礎情報になると考えられる。
