近代中国の知識人たちが「社会」というものをどのように認識したのかについてこの間、さまざまな角度から研究を深めた.ひとつにはsociety の中国語の訳語として「社会」がどのように定着していったのかについて考察した.それは従来からある「群」という中国語に「社会」がとってかわる過程でもある.また「社会」というものをどのように考えたのかについても多面的に考察を加えた.
