Research Abstract	19世紀初頭のイギリス経済、とりわけ新たな紙幣制度に反対するジャーナリストWilliam Cobbettの唯物主義的な思想を整理した。同様に従来の金本位制度を支持し、紙幣制度に反対したイギリス・ロマン派詩人P. B. Shelleyの論旨を整理し、両者の主張に多くの類似点を認め、さらには想像力の効用に重きを置くShelleyの自己矛盾を明らかにした。また、当時のイギリスで広まっていた功利主義の考えとロマン派の想像力との関係についても明らかにした。
