Research Abstract

白亜紀中期に発生した海洋無酸素事変のうち、フランスに露出する白亜紀前期のOAE1b層(約1億1000万年前)と白亜紀後期のOAE2層(約9350万年前)について高分解能で解析を行った。
その結果、OAE1bに関しては、海洋循環の停滞と陸からの栄養塩の供給の増加の両方の要因が重なった時により発生し、数千年サイクルで無酸素水塊の発達と解消が繰り返されていたことがわかった。
一方、OAE2に関しては、陸からの栄養塩の供給はそれほど影響がなく、海洋循環の停滞が主要な原因であることが示された。
無酸素水塊の発達はOAE1bでは水層には及ばなかったのに対して、OAE2h水層のかなり浅い部分まで無酸素状態であったことが示唆され、両イベントでは形成原因や無酸素水塊の発達規模、海洋生物への影響が異なっていたことが明らかになった。
