Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This programme of research is aimed at investigating the physical origin of the nexus between‘kinematic complexity’and black holes in collisional stellar systems, especially star clusters. The activities were structured in three main phases: (i) formation, (ii) equilibrium, (iii) evolution. On phase (i), I have pushed forward the theoretical investigation of the role of 'kinematic complexity' in the dynamics of star clusters. Two articles have been submitted to peer-reviewed journals and two additional papers will be submitted shortly. These manuscripts have been prepared in collaboration with researchers at Univ. Edinburgh. Two additional articles on previously started projects have also been accepted for publications. On phase (ii), I have started the construction of equilibrium dynamical models with a central black hole and I have made good progress in the analysis of the observational data from Gaia Data Release 2. A manuscript describing this study is currently in preparation and will be submitted soon. Phase (iii) was expected to take place in Year 2, therefore has not started yet. After the Fellowship interruption (due to new employment at Univ. Edinburgh), I have been based at UTokyo as a Visiting Associate for six months. In the future, I will continue to collaborate with Prof Fujii on phase (iii) and on other projects which we have already initiated in collaboration with researchers at the UTokyo Dept. of Physics and RIKEN in Kobe.
