Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Experimentally demonstrated a new technique for non-resonant temporal modulation of polariton condensates via the beating of two, frequency-locked lasers. This allows for very fast modulation, and probing of non-adiabatic regimes of carrier relaxation.

Combining the intensity beating with laser-wavefront tailoring, arbitrary spatial potentials with temporal modulation are formed. A 1D conveyor belt has been demonstrated, with the observation of tilted bands and a non-adiabatically pushed condensate. Further, using Laguerre-Gauss laser modes, preliminary measurements of a non-resonantly rotated polariton condensate were achieved.

These new techniques enable as-yet unexplored methods of creating topological states of exciton-polaritons, e.g. by rapid rotation, or by shaken optical lattices.
