Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of the present study was to create a language teaching and assessment system based on CEFR-J, with a focus on improving the English speaking skills of university level students, from admission to graduation. We have developed a speaking test of English as a foreign language for admissions purpose as well as speaking tasks for teaching and formative assessment. The attempt was to create a pedagogical cycle of evaluating the students’speaking skills upon entrance to the university, teaching speaking skills through tasks based on CEFR-J, and repeating formative assessment as the students make progress. The students’ language profiles have also been visualized in the form of an e-Porforlio.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究の学術的意義は、英語のスピーキング能力の育成基盤の構築に向けて、妥当性の高い診断的・形成的評価を、指導と一体化させた点にある。個別試験に利用可能なスピーキングテストを開発するために体系的なトライアル実験と多面的な検証を行い、CEFRに紐づけされた語彙レベルも考慮して開発されたスピーキングタスクを形成的評価のために活用した取り組みは、国内に先例が少ない。独自に開発したスピーキングテストは、他大学の入学試験にも活用され、その社会的意義も大きい。
