2019年度は、国際シンポジウムやセミナーを開催し、研究課題の議論を深めた。2019年6月20-21日には、リトアニア歴史研究所、ドイツ歴史研究所（ワルシャワ）との共催で"Making the Empire Great Again: Challenges in Modernising the Russian Empire"を開催した。このシンポジウムには、11カ国から17人が参加し研究報告を行った。さらに2019年6月29日には、東京大学で開かれたThe 10th East Asian Conference on Slavic Eurasian Studiesで、Darius Staliunas, Yaroslav Shulatov, Olga Khomenkoを報告者として招き（ディスカッサントは長縄宣博）パネル"Nations in the Russia's Empire: Challenge or Leverage?"を組織した。2019年11月22-27日のThe 2019 ASEEES Annual Conventionでは、Darius Staliunas, Bradley Woodworth, Kimitaka Matsuzatoらとともに（ディスカッサントはIlya Gerasimov）パネル"Multiethnicity as a Challenge for Tsarist Government in Late Imperial Period"を組織した。同時に当学会では、Peter Waldron, Yaroslav Shulatovらとともに、ラウンドテーブル"Imperial Challenges: One Century of Transformations in Russia and Japan"も組織した。

Reason
2019年度は数多くの国際学会、シンポジウム、セミナーを企画することができ、予定以上の成果をあげたと言える。しかし、年度末にコロナが蔓延したことを受けて、海外調査ができなくなり、最終的な研究計画の完遂は遅れることになった。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
2019年末からのコロナ禍が長引き、学会の開催が延期にされたり、海外出張が出来なくなるなどの弊害が深刻となった。さらにロシアの軍事侵攻に伴い、ロシアへの入国が非常に困難になっているため、海外調査に支障が出ている。最終的な研究計画の完遂のために、国内出張や資料の整備などの代替手段を取りながら、研究計画を進めていく必要がある。
