ENSO気候変動は超高層大気をどう揺らすのか:成層圏オゾンが果たす役割の解明

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

対流圏と海洋間の相互作用現象であるエルニーニョ・南方振動(ENSO)が、数百km上空の超高層大気領域(熱圏・電離圏)にまで影響を及ぼすことが長期間観測から見出されている。本研究では、この数百km間の上下結合において、成層圏オゾンが駆動する放射・力学過程を、観測データの総合解析と高精度数値モデルを駆使して解明する。今年度はオゾン変動が中間圏・下部熱圏に及ぼす力学的影響を解明した。具体的に、全大気モデルを用いて、2012年のエルニーニョを再現して、対流圏オゾンの空間分布を変化させるシミュレーションを行った。その結果、対流圏オゾン変調は、高度約20kmから約100kmまでのDW2潮汐を約5%強めることがわかった。これは水蒸気変調による大気潮汐変化(約80%)に比べて小さいことがわかった。また、GAIAモデルによるシミュレーションを行い、熱圏の帯状 平均運動量バランスを調べることで、CO2濃度2倍に対する熱圏帯状平均風の応答メカニズムを探った。解析の結果、イオン抵抗、分子粘性、子午線圧力勾配力 は、CO2濃度の2倍化によって他の力も変化することがわかった。この3つの力は互いに強く減衰し、その結果、帯状平均帯状イオン抗力の増加が 支配的に強化される。このイオン抵抗の強化は、北半球/南半球でイオン密度/イオンと中性粒子間の相対速度が増加することに起因する。一方、帯状風は、CO2 濃度増加に対する熱圏密度の緯度非対称な応答による子午線圧力勾配力の増加によって主に変化することがわかった。この結果は、北半球のイオン密度の増加 が、CO2濃度増加に対する風の応答の根本的なトリガーであることを示唆している。
