Outline of Final Research Achievements

After the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, the number of research activities about tsunami load and building performance against tsunami has been increasing. Although quantitative tsunami load evaluation has been proposed, quantitative safety evaluation against building collapse due to collision of tsunami-driven ships is still insufficient because of the limited number of studies. In this research, effects on building collapse due to collision of tsunami-driven ships is investigated, and the design procedure to avoid building collapse is proposed through collision tests of building column and frame specimens.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
