Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2020、2021年度は、コロナ禍によって予定された海外調査が中止になった結果、当初予定されていたカメルーン南部州、ザンビア北部州の現地調査が不可能となり、渡航費用が2022年度に繰り越された。2022年度には、研究代表者が1か月の入院治療と静養により、予定されていたカメルーンにおける現地シンポジウムが中止された結果、カメルーン研究協力者1名の招へいにより、京都大学農学部において、半公開特別セミナー「Special Seminar on Estimating Potential Arable Land in Sub-Saharan Africa」が開催され、本プロジェクトの総括が行われた。主な成果は、以下の通り。
1.潜在可耕地という農学的な概念を、地球の持続性、生物多様性、生態系サービスを含んだ、より包括的な概念として提示し、社会的認知を受けることが、システム・ダイナミクスを用いることによって可能となる道が示された。人口増加、熱帯林の保護、木材の需要という相反する利益を調和させるためには、土地に対する多面的な理解の共有が必要であり、それは「住民主体の自然資源管理」を基礎にする必要が示された。
2.カメルーン東部州、マラウイ北部州の現地調査においては、世帯耕地面積を規定する要因は、投入労働力であり5年間で、雇用労働により世帯耕地面積が増大する傾向が示された。
3.カメルーン東部州の森林帯、サバンナ帯における養分フラックスの現地観測により、森林帯での硝酸態窒素の溶脱による酸性化、サバンナ帯でのCaの溶脱が著しいことが示された。このことは、潜在可耕地の評価に、元の植生が大きな影響を与えることを示していた。
4.カメルーン北西部州の火山性土壌地帯の調査が、東部州との比較を目的に行なわれた結果、有機Al複合体と、準晶質鉱物（アロフェン、イモゴライト）との分別が行われ、有機Al複合体の分布は、標高と高い正の相関をもっていた。
