Outline of Final Research Achievements

DNA methylation defines the gene expression patterns in the differentiated cells. Importantly, DNA methylation patterns in the cells are faithfully inherited to the next generation through the individual’s life. In this study, we performed the structural biology of the proteins that are involved in the DNA methylation maintenance. We found the novel mechanism of DNA methylation maintenance: replication coupled DNA methylation maintenance, which is distinct from the previous mechanism.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
