Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study was to construct a new theory and develop learning programs for fostering media literacy that critically understands media infrastructures (from SNS, search engines such as Google, to the Internet) not only from a technological perspective but also from a cultural and social perspective.
As a result, we presented a new theory on media infrastructure and created a framework to reconsider the entire conventional media literacy. As for the learning programs, we developed workshops (WS) for college students and adults in general and produced a total of seven programs based on our original four-type model.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

従来のメディア・リテラシーは、メディア・テキスト（情報内容）の批判的理解に注目しており、メディア・インフラ（情報内容の乗り物）は技術的産業的産物として等閑視されてきた。本研究はメディア・インフラを社会的文化的観点からとらえる重要性を主張し、新たなメディア・リテラシーの総合的理論を提示することに成功した。
新型コロナ禍で、世界同時に急速なデジタル化が進むこととなった。その過程で図らずもメディア・インフラが社会や人間存在をいかに深く精緻に規定しているかが明らかとなった。その結果、本研究成果は、官公庁、地方自治体、ジャーナリズム、学校教育、生涯学習、学会等内外様々な領域で注目を集めた。
