Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The researchers in the project have successfully conducted the original fieldwork activities as planned. The three members in the research project have met major stakeholders in the Japanese Restaurant industries in South Korea, Italy, Malaysia, Australia, and Singapore, and conducted interviews. The interview questions were focused on the perception of Japanese food served at overseas restaurants in terms of destination image and branding of destinations where the restaurants are located. The project will continue to accomplish the following objectives: (a) Understand how much impact Japanese restaurants overseas makes in taking the diners’ overall interest in Japanese food and culture and (b) Do those diners have a higher level of interest in visiting Japan?

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The researchers plan to conduct more interviews in the countries of Southeast Asia and Latin America. They would also conduct questionnaire surveys with diners in overseas Japanese restaurants in more countries. They will present research papers in the international academic conferences as progress is further made.
