Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have built a prototype of a VR-based oral history digital archive to accumulate and intergenerational circulation (passing on memories) of "community memories" generated in daily life about the community where people live. As a system that can be provided at public libraries, it was designed to allow up to four people to capture video footage of themselves discussing local memories without requiring skilled technology or expensive equipment. A workflow for easily creating VR content was demonstrated, and a method for digitally archiving community memories was empirically presented.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

先行事例において仮想現実(VR)，人工知能（AI），自然言語処理（NLP）を組み合わせた「記憶」のデジタルアーカイブ化が既に実践されているが，その対象は戦争や災害のような特別の経験にかぎられている．本研究は，居住地域に関する，ありふれているがその地域と時代に固有の「記憶」を語り継ぐ仕組みとして，特別の技術や高価な機材を用いずに，市民の語りを臨場感・没入感が高いVRコンテンツとして記録するプロトタイプシステムを構築した．これにより，公共図書館等が地域住民によるオーラルヒストリーのデジタルアーカイブを作成することが実現可能であることを示した．
