Outline of Annual Research Achievements

1.液体界面の超高速振動ダイナミクスの解明:時間分解HD-VSFGを用いて、空気/水界面のOH伸縮の振動緩和時間を決定した。その結果、(1) 水素結合OHの励起では振動数に関わらず約0.3ピコ秒で振動緩和すること、(2)フリーOHを励起した場合は、振動励起を保ったまま約0.9ピコ秒で回転によって水素結合OHに変化し、その後直接励起の水素結合OHと同じ0.3ピコ秒で振動緩和することがわかり、振動緩和の全貌が明らかになった。
新たに開発した干渉型2D HD-VSFGを用いて空気/水界面の測定を行い、従来法では観測できない300 fs内に特異なダイナミクスの存在を強く示唆するデータを得た。
2.液体界面構造と界面分子の反応性の解明:水表面で高速化することが明らかになったフェノールの光化学反応に対する理論的研究を行い、これが電子励起状態間の相対エネルギーが溶媒効果で変化した結果であること明らかにしてJ. Am. Chem. Soc.誌のカバーに採用された論文を発表した。
3.埋もれた界面への展開と現実界面の基礎分子過程の解明:最も基本的な酸化物/水界面であるシリカ/水界面に対して広いpH範囲でHD-VSFG測定を行い、特異値分解を駆使してスペクトル解析した。その結果、pH12~pH2においてシリカ表面は負に帯電し、その電気二重層はStern層(SL)と拡散層(DL)からなること(Sternモデルの分光学的実証)、SLは0.01 Mの希薄なイオン濃度ですでに完全に形成すること、シリカ表面のSiOH とSiO- + H+の平衡は一つのpKa(~4.8)を示すこと等の明確な描像を得た。さらに二次電池として重要なリチウムイオン電池のモデル電極界面をHD-VSFGを用いて研究し、濃厚電解質溶液では電解質分解物が電極を覆い溶媒の分解反応が阻止されるという説を強く支持するデータをin situで得た。
