Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In the last fiscal year (April 2018-March 2019), I completely achieved my research objectives and had several research achievements as follows.
1. Data collection: From June to July 2018, I conducted a field experiment and a household survey on 1295 tea-cultivating households in Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam. I collaborated with Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry to conduct this research.
2. Working paper: Vu Ha Thu, Duc Tran, Daisaku Goto and Keisuke Kawata, Pecuniary versus Non-pecuniary Interventions to Influence Farmers’ Behavior: Evidence from Field Experiment in Vietnam, IDEC DP2 Series, 8-9, Hiroshima University, Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC), January 2019 (http://doi.org/10.15027/47407).
3. International conference: I presented my research at the 15th International Conference of the Western Economic Association International (WEAI) held in Keio University from March 21st to March 24th 2019. The title was pecuniary versus non-pecuniary interventions to influence farmers’ behavior: evidence from field experiment in Vietnam.
4. Outreach activity: In 2018, I conducted a team project in Sera, Hiroshima to promote sustainable agriculture development. Based on the outputs of the project, I co-organized the 8th Taoyaka International Workshop in October 2018 (https://www.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/en/news/47832). The workshop aimed at showing research results of the project to both specialist and non-specialist audience, especially for local people.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

In the last fiscal year (April 2018-March 2019), my research targets were
(1) to conduct a field experiment and a household survey
(2) to submit my first manuscript to a SSCI journal
(3) to attend an international conference.
In general, these targets were achieved completely. I conducted a field experiment on 1295 tea-cultivating households in Vietnam from June to July 2018 (objective 1). Besides, I submitted my first manuscript to Progress in Development Studies, a SSCI journal, in September 2018. The Editor requested us to revise and re-submit the manuscript in March 2019 (objective 2). I also finalized my second manuscript and presented it at the 15th International Conference of the Western Economic Association International (WEAI) (objective 3). I also did some outreach activities in Sera, Hiroshima to promote sustainable agriculture development. Moreover, I co-organized an international workshop in October 2018 to show the outputs of these activities to not only specialist but also non-specialist audience, in particular local people (https://www.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/en/news/47832).

Strategy for Future Research Activity

Targets of this fiscal year (April 2019-March 2020):

(2) Attending some international conferences.
(3) Finalizing my Ph.D. dissertation.
Research plan of this fiscal year to achieve these targets:
April-May, 2019: Revising and Re-submitting my two current papers to the journals. June-July, 2019: Conducting follow-up survey in Vietnam (objective 1).(Sample size: 1295 tea-cultivating households. Host institution: Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry). August-September, 2019: Data cleaning, data analysis, and finalizing the third manuscript. October-December, 2019: Attending some international conferences (objective 2), Revising and completing my Ph.D. dissertation (objective 3). January-February, 2020: Preparing for the public hearing.
