Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The Objective of this research is to develop a novel E-field responsive luminescent LC materials. By introducing either push-pull stilbazolium rod-shaped chromophores or discotic aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecules into the hierarchically co-assembled columnar LC system of our group, in situ luminescent switching could be realized by switching the mode of E-field between AC and DC. I designed and synthesized a series of discotic molecules with triphenylamine moiety base on our previous work. And studied the supramolecular polymer behavior of these discotic molecules in liquid crystalline phase. The coassembly of the TPA and 5OCB shows photo-induced luminiscecent change and could be erase by simply heat to the isotropic temperature. we are now working on the explanation of this phenomenon.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The original designed synthetic route was proved to be low efficient and the designed molecule doesn’t work as we expected.During facing on these problems, we redesigned a new synthetic route, which works very well and facilitate us for the future molecular design. We also design some new fluorescent discotic molecule as the progress report mentions. We are now working on this new molecule.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Benefitted by the new synthetic route, I can easily functionalize our discotic molecule. 1. I firstly try to introduced a triphenylamine moiety, which is know for its potential for hole transport and light response, into the core part. I will test the light response and also hole transport behavior of this newly designed liquid crystal. 2. Also, I will test other function core part for broaden this work
