Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Liquid crystal (LC) is thought to be an organized solvent(media). However, the researches on how supramolecular polymer behaves in LC media are rarely reported. Recently, our group reported a system in which chiral disc-shaped molecule supramolecularly polymerize in and co-assemble with an achiral LC-forming rod-shaped molecule resulting as a hybrid columnar LC. During this supramolecular polymerization, chirality is transferred to liquid crystalline media from supramolecular polymer. Based on this previous work, the present research introduced a chiral LC-forming media 5*CB, to act as chiral auxiliary/promoter in which disc-shaped molecule could supramolecularly polymerize into one-handed helical structure. This research for the first time discussed: (1) Symmetry Breaking induced by Chiral Liquid Crystalline Media: The construction of a one-handed hybrid columnar LC with porphyrin-core discshaped molecule and chiral LC-forming rod-shaped molecule. (2) Chirality amplification phenomenon of Supramolecular Polymer in liquid crystalline media.
