Outline of Annual Research Achievements

I investigated the background of Kant's theory of perpetual peace in scholastic doctrines of divine knowledge and creation, and have submitted a book manuscript for publication.
This book tries to answer three questions about Kant’s infamous guarantee thesis by examining the “first addendum” of his Philosophical Sketch of 1795, namely how the guarantor powers relate to each other, how there can be a guarantee without undermining freedom, and why there is a guarantee in the first place. Kant’s conception of an interplay of human and divine rational agency encompassing nature is crucial in this respect. For Kant, we are committed to believing the “world author” knew that if he brought about the world, the supreme good would be brought about as well. Perpetual peace, moreover, is its condition.
I participated in the 2nd International Kant Summer School at The Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and gave a lecture. I was invited as a guest speaker in 2018-19 Annual Meeting of the Pacific Study Group North American Kant Society at the University of California, San Diego. I also set up 1st preparatory meeting of reality research group with Professor Eric Watkins.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

I submitted the manuscript for the new book as planned, and it will be published soon.
I participated in the 2nd International Kant Summer School at The Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and gave a lecture, and was invited as a guest speaker in 2018-19 Annual Meeting Pacific Study Group North American Kant Society at University of California, San Diego.
Lots of materials which could not be used for the book due to space restrictions will be utilized separate publications. I profited from the intense communication with the chief editor of the series.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In this academic year, Kant's models of the distinction of things in themselves and appearances and scholastic doctrines of the divine intellect will be the center of attention; also for an extensive scholarly paper. I'll participate in international conferences this year as well.
Another paper is planned about Kant's Molinism and Perpetual Peace based on the talk at The University of California, San Diego. Also, reviews about Kant and the scholastic traditions and manuscripts for new papers are in advanced stages.

Causes of Carryover

Planned to use as a remuneration, but it didn't work till the end of the academic year. It will be used combined with this year's grant.
