Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The activities of the Polish-born French art critic Waldemar Georges were a unique example of various attempts to reconstruct traditions in modern art in European countries between the two world wars. He did not fit within the framework of the trend observed in French art criticism at the time, which sought the essence of French art in a "middle ground" that avoided all extremes, and he instead sought solidarity with the Italian art world under the Fascist regime, especially with the "Novecento," but he was not understood. Then he sought a way out in the movement to revive and celebrate ancient Roman culture, led by the Italian archaeological community at the time, and he finally came to claim the "Neo-Humanism" he led as a descendant of Roman culture considered a garanteer of the authority of Fascism.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
