Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The final phase of this investigation was focused on the dissemination of knowledge and reflection on wetware art. Methods to develop this area included elaboration of educational materials and events to make this investigation known to the general public; in particular, to art, design, and life sciences students at Japanese universities. During the development of the investigation there was continuous research collaboration and discussion on wetware and extraterrestrial organic materials (e.g. formamide) with Associate Professor Taro Toyota (Dept. of Basic Science, the University of Tokyo). There was also international research collaboration on bio art with media theorist Dr. Jens Hauser (University of Copenhagen). The outcomes generated during the last phase include: 1) participation in an international exhibition on bio art in Austria; 2) two lectures on media art and astrobiology in an international symposium; 3) a website with educational materials (publications and videos) about the intersection of media art and astrobiology, exhibitions on bio art, extraterrestrial organic matter as an active medium for artistic expression, and alien life; 4) a publication on media art and science.
