Outline of Final Research Achievements |
John of Fordun's Chronica Gentis Scotorum seems to have had an effect on Hardying's narrative of the genealogy of English kings. When the Wars of Roses broke out in the 1450s, the narrative of Hardyng's Chronicle 1st version makes a stark contrast against his second version, particularly in the part of the "Lamentation" after the story of Cadwaladr. The close association of Cadwaladr with York seems to echo in the Prose Brut text, which William Caxton published as the Chronicles of England in 1480. This seems due to Hardyng's Chronicle. Many English chronicles emphasized Cadwaladr during the Yorkist reign, and Hardyng's Chronicle seems to be one of the first of such tendencies.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
