Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project focused on the works of writer Robert Walser and painter Paul Klee, both of whom were born in German-speaking Switzerland. In the first half of the 20th century, they created new cross-genre techniques that went beyond the narrow areas of literature and painting in their respective fields. Their work continues to influence artists in a wide range of artistic fields, including music, film and theatre, to this day.
In order to capture the intertwining and interpenetration of the two art forms of literature and painting, we have analysed genre hybridity, focusing in particular on the inter-perceptual aspects of synaesthetic expression and narrative.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

個別研究では、様々なジャンルの作品の細部において、生産的な融合を確認することによって、絵画と文学の間にある創造的な緊張関係を明らかにすることに成功した。また、共感覚的表現の知覚横断的側面を分析することにより、新しい表現形式が近代文学と絵画の境界をいかに相互浸透可能なものにしたかを示すことができた。
さらに本プロジェクトの一環として、ワークショップ、学術講演会やシンポジウムにおいて多言語による学際的かつ国際的な議論を活発に行った結果、20世紀初期モダニズムにおいて書字テクストと視覚メディアの相互作用に新たな展開が見られたことを、日本、ドイツ、スイスの参加者の間で広く共有することができた。
