Outline of Annual Research Achievements

This project aims to develop a non-invasive cognitive test focusing on sentence processing for assisting elder population. In AY2020, challenges due to COVID-19, but we collected intended data regarding the processing of instrumental case and word order change, using remote data collection methods. We also created an experimental method that allowed data collection from both younger and elder speakers of Japanese.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Considering the disruptions of the experimental research, the current research is progressing smoothly. A request for one-year extension of the Kakenhi was granted, and we will use the time to complete data collection and disseminating results of the data.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In AY2021, we are completing the data collection on comparative processing in Japanese and Korean. The Bodo data will also be collected as planned once the COVID situation in India is under control. The data collection method used for obtaining both younger and elder speakers of these languages will be employed.

Causes of Carryover

Due to the COVID-19, intended international data collection was not possible. As such, the transferred funds will be used during AY2021.
