Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In AY2021, several aspects of the project were completed even though the COVID-19 pandemic was at large. Results of experiments were disseminated into a replication paper (Arii et al. 2022) and a methodology paper (Ibara et al. 2022). The comparative data collection was remotely conducted using SuperLab. 30 younger and 30 older Japanese speakers participated in the study. Analyses of the results showed that older generation has slower response rate, but not necessarily less accurate, which was unexpected. Results were presented in Muto et al. (2022), which is now written into a manuscript.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to COVID-10, exploring new data collection methods resulted in a slight delay in the running of the project. However, we creatively found methods to conduct remote data collection, and successfully completed data collection of comparatives.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The grant was extended into AY2022. We are creating remote experiments to collect data from a Tibeto-Burman language (originally Bodo, but could be changed to Nuosu Yi due to the availability of participants). After the data collection, we will complete writing manuscripts on the processing of instrumentals and comparatives, in addition to a comparative paper that discusses patterns in Korean, Japanese and a Tibeto-Burman language.

Causes of Carryover |
Data collection and dissemination that required travels could not be done due to COVID-19. As such, some funds were carried over to this fiscal year.
