Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Last year was a successful year for this research project. In September, I presented a paper at the 70th Annual Conference of the Japanese Association of Indian and Buddhist Studies. In October, I attended the Recent Advances in Tocharian Philology and Linguistics Workshop held at the University of Vienna and presented two papers. These conferences have resulted in two papers (one a study on manuscript B 543 and another an in-depth study of manuscript B 197) that are in preparation for publication. The conference in Vienna was stimulating and provided the opportunity to collaborate closely with scholars in Europe.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Overall, my research is progressing as planned. For example, I presented two papers (“Recent Advancements in Understanding the Tocharian B Abhidharma Literature: A New Look at Manuscript THT 197”, and “A Sanskrit-Tocharian Dictionary Project: Tocharian B antispur, A antispur ‘harem’”) at the Recent Advances in Tocharian Philology and Linguistics Workshop, University of Vienna, October 25, 2019. I also reported my findings in a talk (titled “A Newly Identified Tocharian Fragment of the Tridandisutra”) given at the 70th Annual Conference of the Japanese Association of Indian and Buddhist Studies, Bukkyo University, Kyoto, September 7, 2019.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
My focus in the upcoming year is to continue building upon the research achievements of the last year and to work more intensively on compiling a Sanskrit-Tocharian dictionary.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Although actual expenditures were different than originally planned, there is no change in my overall research plans.
