Outline of Final Research Achievements

Regarding the collection of data on phonological phenomena in the Kyushu dialect, although a fieldwork plan was drawn up, it could not be carried out due to the impact of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). However, the analysis of previously collected data and theoretical research from the novel perspectives of dialect formation and dialect breakdown have made great progress. Regarding the description of linguistic data in the former, we summarized the te-related phonological phenomena of the dialects of Nichinan City, Kushima City, Nishimera Village in Koyu District, Shiiba Village in Higashiusuki District, and Takachiho Town in Nishiusuki District, in the Miyazaki Prefecture. The latter theoretical study also postulated the dialect breakdown process that occurs in te-related phonological phenomena. The application environment of the phonological rules governing the phonological phenomena was found to have the property of "from specific to general".

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
