Outline of Annual Research Achievements

This project has two objectives. The first is to research a method of teaching and learning a foreign language that promotes an approach that integrates linguistic and multicultural competences (Byram 1990, Kramsch 1993). The second objective is related to the creation of activities based on literary material that facilitate learning and the integration of intercultural competencies in the ELE classroom. This project is framed within the communicative approach to language teaching. This implies that the development of communicative competence should be present in any language activity. The literature pays a special attention to form, and this helps the learner reflect about language, another principle and goal of the communicative method.
The main concepts of this project are culture, culture diversity and intercultural competence, all of them oriented to the teaching and learning of a foreign language. This research want create an adequate framework for conceptualizing the knowledge, skills and abilities tied to human communicative actions, Byram created the term intercultural communicative competence, and it has since become widely used, with this model, it is sought to create diverse activities suitable to bring people through literature.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The first step is construct a theoretical framework based on the combination of teaching Spanish as a foreign language and intercultural communicative competences. The investigation in this moment is researching this theoretical framework.And to share with professors from others universities the theoretical concepts for to receive commentaries and to know how the concept of interculturality is worked in Spanish classes.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

1) Develop activities based on literary text an intercultural communicative competences.
2)Participate in Congress and workshop for have another opinion about this research.
3) Apply the material in different universities to test its effectiveness through surveys, interviews, and workshops in order to make any necessary changes prior to distributing the final material to students

Causes of Carryover

The next year the research must continue visiting different universities and the observation classes in different universities, for to know how the teachers give lessons about the intercultural competences and why they do not have several activities for teach literature in class.
Also is programming go to international congress and show the material make at this moment.
And, finally for the investigation is necessary have more articles and books for to investigate news concept on the subject.
