Outline of Annual Research Achievements

This project has two objectives. The first is to research a method of teaching and learning a foreign language that promotes an approach that integrates linguistic and multicultural competences (Byram 1990, Kramsch 1993). The second objective is related to the creation of activities based on literary material that facilitate learning and the integration of intercultural competencies in the ELE classroom. This project is framed within the communicative approach to language teaching. This implies that the development of communicative competence should be present in any language activity. The literature pays a special attention to form, and this helps the learner reflect about language, another principle and goal of the communicative method.
The main concepts of this project are culture, culture diversity and intercultural competence, all of them oriented to the teaching and learning of a foreign language. This research want create an adequate framework for conceptualizing the knowledge, skills and abilities tied to human communicative actions, Byram created the term intercultural communicative competence, and it has since become widely used, with this model, it is sought to create diverse activities suitable to bring people through literature.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Due to the pandemic, research has been slower than planned, but it has continued with the creation of activities that unite cultural skills and literature. They have been carried out in the ELE classroom, to advance in the acquisition of skills. In the last year I have participated in conferences in Japan and in a teacher training day. From my point of view, it was an important advance in research to be able to transfer my knowledge to other professors.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

For the future I hope to continue looking for theoretical material that supports the research, every year there are new publications. On the other hand, I will continue looking for literary texts that meet the proposed objectives, I will focus on short stories without being adapted. Practice the different texts with students to see the results. If it is possible to participate in conferences to hear the opinion of other teachers.

Causes of Carryover

During this year I hope to participate in an international congress and show the progress of the investigation. This will be the last year of the research, so the most important thing is to finish the activities and make them known to other teachers.
