Outline of Final Research Achievements

The results of the analysis of the data collected in Appendix 4, "Research Methods", were presented at the 57th RELC INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE held in Singapore in March 2023 as "The effect of accented English of Japanese The results were presented as 'The effect of accented English of Japanese university students on employment decisions" at the 57th RELC INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE in Singapore in March 2023 (joint presentation with Professor Yasunari Harada, Waseda University School of Law). The analysis is ongoing and a paper on this data is currently being written, as there were delays in the experiment due to the pandemic and some of the analysis could not be carried out.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は企業が日本の大学生に対して卒業時にどのような英語スピーキング能力を身に着けていることを期待しているのかを通じて学生の英語力についてのemployabilityを調査した。研究手法としてこれまでemployabilityが研究されてきたビジネス・ジャーナルで採られてきた方法ではなく第二言語習得の音声・心理言語学の研究でcomprehensibilityが測定されてきた方法を踏襲し外国語教育の分野で使われているスピーキング能力の測定指標とemployabilityを比較することでビジネス英語のニーズと外国語教育の研究で得られた知見を融合し新たな視点から大学の英語教育に貢献したものと考える。
