Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Two presentations were given : 1) 全国語学教育学会 第45回年次国際大会教材展示会 (Nov. 2, 2019) titled “Improving Efficacy with Learning Strategies”; and 2) Japan Association for Language Teaching meeting at 鳥取大学 (May 26, 2019) titled “Strategies to Improve Learning”. Five versions of study tool materials were finalized. The research materials were developed. These include the study card sets, the pre-, during-, and post- study questionnaires. The study has been carried out with a number of subjects. One paper was published in relation to the study subject “Student Study Habits and Metacognitive Awareness of Learning Strategies” 第6号,p.p. 5-19, Lowes, 福山大学大学校教育センター.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The research had been proceeding smoothly. One issue that did present something of a challenge was finding research subjects who were both willing to participate in the research and who did not have confounding factors. My initial expectation was that this would not be a challenge, but for a while it proved to be. This delayed the progress of the research somewhat. A second issue that is currently having a negative impact on the research is the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to measures that the school has adopted to limit the spread of the pathogen, I am not able to have subjects undergo the research. Additionally, the international conferences that I had submitted presentation proposals to have cancelled or significantly postponed their conferences.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The research will be promoted through multiple academic presentations and some publications. I have been accepted to present at the Asia TEFL conference (now postponed from June to November) and am awaiting acceptance at other international conferences. The uncertainty related to the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many conferences are postponing their acceptance of presentation proposals until they have a better idea of how the pandemic evolves. At this point, I will be continuing with the research plan as it was going smoothly until it was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. I am not sure what will happen with the international conferences.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The primary expense in the third year of the research plan was to travel both domestically and internationally to present the research findings to as broad an audience as possible. The current pandemic has complicated that plan, so I will have to see how the year develops. I do hope that some international conferences establish health and safety protocols that permit conferences to continue. It is very possible that air travel will become more costly due to the physical distancing measures which will be required, and this may influence which conferences can be attended.
