Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The outbreak of the corona virus and its continuing negative influence on travel meant that I had to adapt and conduct the entire research online. As I was not be able to visit schools in the current climate I tried to interview teachers online with regards to their teaching practices and philosophy and explore the possibility of syllabus design at a heritage language school with teachers interested in the project. Interviewing teachers was not always possible due to time differences and so therefore I had to rely on questionnaires to get data. Even though teachers were interested in CLIL It was difficult trying to get school teachers to use CLIL within their own classes because they already have an established curriculum. It was therefore difficult to examine the concept of integrating CLIL into a heritage language school. The research therefore became theoretical and perception based with interesting data on CLIL from the perspective of teachers that is not evident in the current CLIL literature. I presented the latest findings of my research at three online international conferences in Hong Kong, American and the Philippines to a good reception which opened up a few options for me in continuing the theme of this research. I will be submitting a paper based on these findings.
