Outline of Final Research Achievements

I tried to clarify the historical facts of ninja, which has been wrapped in a virtual image due to the influence of creation. The existence of ninja is known all over the country, but the subject of research was the Iga people who served the Tokugawa family.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

忍者とは、小説・講談・漫画・アニメ・実写劇（映画・テレビなど）において人気のコンテンツであり、日本においてのみならず、海外においても、知名度が高く、特に最近の海外においては、ゲーム・コンテンツとして馴染みのあるものとして知られている。しかし、歴史学における忍者に関する研究成果の蓄積は、必ずしも多いとはいえず、近年、三重大学の「忍者学」に関する研究がはじまったばかりである。それは、忍者が前述の創作上のものとしてあまりに著名であったことが影響して、従来の歴史研究の対象とは、考えられてこなかったことが原因である、と考えられる。そこで、徳川家に仕えた伊賀者たちの史料が豊富であるので、研究を試みた。
