Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, I examined how the political and diplomatic relations between the sister republics and France during the Directory period influenced the content of the national festivals held in the sister republics. Unfortunately, the spread of the coronavirus made it difficult to research historical materials in France, so the main research results were limited to elucidation of the interrelationship between the political situation in France and the national festivals in France, but I was able to present findings that have a certain weight in advancing this research.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は、総裁政府期のフランスと姉妹共和国の相互関係を、文化・宗教政策の観点から追求することで、支配者・被支配者の間に成立した権力関係や、いわゆる同化政策の特質を明らかにすることを目的とする。具体的には、両国で開催された国民祭典の内容の解明・比較を試みた。コロナウイルスの感染拡大で、研究が停滞したため、フランス本国の国民祭典と国内の政治状況の相関のみ、明らかにできたが、文化と政治の相関について、多くの知見を得ることができた。この点は、フランス革命研究の進展に対して、一定の貢献をなすものであるし、この革命に対する社会の関心を喚起する上でも、重要な意義を持つ。
