現代日本の対外政策について、基礎文献を収集したほか、情報公開請求による文書開示を進めながら、政策過程と国際関係の両面から分析を行った。情報公開請求による開示文書は、外務省だけでなく、内閣官房、防衛省、経済産業省など幅広く対象を設定することで、多面的に対外政策の策定過程を跡づける準備をしてある。時期については、小泉純一郎内閣までとしてある。
具体的な研究実績としては、Ryuji Hattori, translated by Graham B. Leonard, Eisaku Sato, Japanese Prime Minister, 1964-72: Okinawa, Foreign Relations, Domestic Politics and the Nobel Prize (London: Routledge, 2021)のほか、「追悼 中曽根康弘元首相」（『中央公論』2020年）130-135頁、「元広島市立大学広島平和研究所所長 浅井基文インタビュー」（土田哲夫・子安加余子編『近現代の中国と世界』中央大学出版部、2020年）315-445頁、「元住友銀行専務取締役 岡部陽二インタビュー――学生時代の高坂正堯」（『総合政策研究』第28号、2020年）111-128頁、"The Washington Conference and East Asia, 1921-1922"（『総合政策研究』第29号、2021年）1-20頁を公表した。
