This project examines 3270 races of Japanese thoroughbred racetrack betting market. It finds that market efficiency improves with the sales volume and deteriorates with the increase of less-informed bettors or the expansion of the bet universe.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
「私的情報を持つ経済主体」と「持たない経済主体」がいる市場では、私的情報を持たない経済主体の取引量が増えると他の経済主体の取引量も増加する一方で、価格に含まれる情報量は減少することが知られている（Vives, 2008, p.176）。つまり、「市場全体の取引量」を「市場の厚み」と定義するなら、市場の厚みが増したときに市場の効率性が低下する場合がある。言い換えると、「市場の厚みが増すと市場の効率性は高まる」という一般論は常に正しいわけではない。そこで本研究課題では、公営賭博市場における勝者投票券のオッズデータを用いて、両者の関係を実証的に分析した。
